On June 14, 2021, Philips Respironics announced a recall for certain CPAP, Bi-PAP and ventilator devices.

Message To Our Patients:
We understand and share your concerns in this uncertain time. Apnix is committed to helping our patients and we are working diligently to assist everyone in a safe and considerate manner.
In-Lab Sleep Studies
Our labs continue to perform sleep studies for patients needing treatment for sleep apnea, a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts. Heightened infection control policies are in place for all locations. Patients should expect additional screening questions and temperature readings for all face-to-face interactions. Patients need to contact their referring provider with questions regarding any delay in treatment for sleep apnea, we are here to serve anyone that is advised to seek treatment.
Scheduled Appointments
For those with scheduled services, please notify our office if there are any changes in your condition or if you must self-isolate do to exposure. Our faithful staff and technicians increase their risk by coming to work to serve you, so we ask you to be considerate by contacting Apnix if you will not make your scheduled appointment.
Telehealth, Curbside Pickup, and Delivery Options
We have two locations, Bellaire and Katy, open to allow for curbside pickup of supplies and home sleep tests. All patients must schedule an appointment to be serviced, walk-ins are strictly prohibited. Please be aware that you may experience longer wait times as the majority of our daytime staff now work remotely and we keep the minimum staff required to operate brick-and-mortar locations to reduce exposure risks. You may call or text our office at 713-349-9767 to schedule telehealth or curbside services. Patients are encouraged to take advantage of our convenient shipping options for resupply or home sleep testing, contact our office for more information.
Patient Hub – New Patient Access Available
This week we launched a new service, Patient Hub by Brightree, to allow our patients to manage their accounts, send secure messages to Apnix, order supplies, get shipment and delivery notifications, view resupply eligibility and more – directly from the mobile app or web portal. Resupply Guidelines, Supply Chains & Shortages
At this time, we are experiencing no supply item shortages due to the pandemic. We will continue to work closely with our vendors to stay aware of any back orders of supplies. Follow us on Facebook or Twitter for updates, or visit Apnix.com for updated information. It is important to stick to recommended resupply timelines as well. Enroll in the Patient Hub app to view resupply eligibility in real time. Recommended resupply guidelines include:
- Disposable filters and Nasal Mask Cushions or Pillows – every 15 days
- Full Face Mask Cushions – every 1 month
- Mask Frames and Tubing – every 3 months
- Mask Headgear, Reusable Filters, Chinstraps, and Humidifier Tubs – every 6 months
Equipment Cleaning and Disinfection
CPAP, Auto-PAP, BiPAP, and RAD machine users should strictly follow manufacturer-recommended cleaning guidelines. Subscribe to our YouTube for videos on how to clean your machine and mask. There are playlists built for each mask style and some great basic education regarding your PAP therapy. Contact our office if you need help finding cleaning and maintenance instructions for your equipment, we are happy to assist you!
Humidifiers and Shortages of Distilled Water
There are several communities that are suffering a lack of common resources due to supply hoarding or delivery interruptions. Although it is *optimal* to use distilled water for the humidifier, tap or bottled water may also be used. It will require a more thorough cleaning of the humidifier to prevent excess mineral buildup in the tub. Humidifier tubs are eligible for replacement by most insurances every 6 months.
CPAP Risk and Discontinuing Use
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) urges you to consult your doctor before discontinuing the use of a CPAP. It’s unclear whether using a CPAP would worsen a coronavirus infection, but use could increase the risk of spreading the virus to others around you. “Dispersion of the virus with PAP is theoretically greater with than without PAP, but how much the risk to others changes specifically because of PAP therapy is not known.” The risk of stopping PAP for a limited time may be manageable depending on the severity and symptoms of the sleep apnea disorder. But without PAP use, some patients may experience an increase in short-term health risks, including accidents, falls or cardiovascular events.
Stay Safe, Stay Healthy
