What is a CPAP Machine?
Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP machine) is used to help a person who has obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) breathe more easily during sleep. Purpose of a CPAP is to increase air pressure in your throat so that your airway doesn’t collapse when you breathe in.
If sleep apnea is present during your sleep study an Apnix technician may fit you for a CPAP machine. A CPAP titration study would then be preformed to find the appropriate settings as well as CPAP machine for you future home use. Offering not only you a better nights sleep but your bed partner as well. Untreated, your breathing patterns at night may continue to worsen. Sleep Apnea is not a one time disorder that will go away over time. Click here if you need to know more about Sleep Apnea.
Your CPAP Machine is used at home every night while you sleep.

How Well It Works
A CPAP machine is effective for treating sleep apnea to help you get a full nights sleep.
- Research shows the CPAP machine significantly reduces daytime sleepiness, especially in those who have moderate to severe sleep apnea.
- Nasal continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP) lowers blood pressure during both the day and the night, for people who have moderate to severe sleep apnea.
- People with coronary artery disease who use a CPAP machine, for sleep apnea, are less likely to have heart problems.
- CPAP machine is recommended for treating sleep apnea rather than alternative nonsurgical methods.
Consult your doctor with any questions or concerns you may have. Getting started with CPAP machine can greatly benefit your health and energy. Adjustments can be made to equipment for a more comfortable fit.
